There are times you can’t swim here, yes it’s true! You travel agent won’t advise you when is the best tome for swimming they’ll tell you the best time to go based on e weather.

The beautiful and calm beaches that you see in the glossy brochure are usually air brushed and taken during the beginning of the dry season, just before the throngs of tourists arrive. This way the pictures don’t show the crowds of Aussies, Kiwi’s but mostly Russians that flock here in there thousands each year.

Don’t be put off, this is a fantastic place to visit all year round and you’ll find that there is still plenty to do here even if you can’t swim.

Why can’t you swim?

The rainy season is still hot here and while it’s hot and extremely humid the risk of swimming is dangerous. There are strong rips and undertows in the waters due to changing sea currents and water run off from the land. What are calm beaches in the November to February season can turn to rough surf and windswept sands in the low season.

The low season has advantages for the thrifty traveler as this is the time to snap up a bargain resort price for your stay. Make sure it has a pool as this is probably where you’ll be swimming.

And what happens if you just ignore all the warnings and go for a swim? You’ll probably be fined…. Yes they take the no swimming beach closed signs seriously here, so unless you have a lot of cash and little respect for your own safety it’s best to sit back relax by the pool where you can sip on a cocktail and be pampered with a massage…..

Sounds like I need to return in the off season.
