Find tipping hard to stomach – and 3 percent of travellers consider it the worst rip-off. But there are much more loathed costs…

When the tap water isn’t up to drinking standards, you have no option but to buy water – and for 3 percent of those surveyed this is the most frustrating cost. But here’s a tip – buy it at a supermarket instead of a vending machine or cafe – it’s usually a fraction of the cost.

8. Late check-out fees
Come on, does it really cost THAT much for another few hours? 4 percent of travellers picked late check-out fees as the biggest rip-off

7. Duty free ‘bargains’
Ever been sucked in by a deal at duty free shops, only to find the item cheaper on the outside? 4 percent of travellers voted this the worst rip-off

6. Paying for a sun lounger
Eight percent of travellers reckon those loungers are the biggest rip-off – but come on, can’t you just lie on the sand?

5. Credit card fees
Fees for paying by credit card took 8 percent of the vote.

4. Taxi fares
Nine percent voted for taxi fares as the biggest rip-off – so jump on the bus or train!

3. Hotel Wi-Fi
Overpriced hotel Wi-Fi took 13 percent of the vote

2. Organised tours and excursions
Obviously there are some unhappy customers out there, with 17 percent selecting the cost of organised tours the biggest money waster!
