Eating and shopping organic in Phuket
It’s not always plain sailing when you make the decision to become an organic shopper and it’s harder when you’re in a strange country where you don’t speak the local language to find organic stores and food outlets.
We took a ride on the little scooter toward Surin Beach from Samkong and discovered a brand new organic outlet.
Talking with Louisa and Nick they gave us a rundown on the local organic scene here. The store opened three weeks ago and is starting to attract local expats and some of the local Thai people. The cost for organic is high, but it’s the same back home too. The local Thai’s who but here are not the local street vendors, more like the local business people.
Louisa was only too eager to show us around and let us sample some of the dried products that they dry right here on the premises. Pineapple, figs, tomatoes and bananas all have such amazing flavours.
The Dutch owner also has an outlet closer to the the airport that has been successfully operating for the last three years, so the growth and interest in organic is starting to thrive in Phuket.
Pura Organics has their own website and we look froward to shopping there when we settle here in the future.
their web is is www.puraorganic.org
If you’ve been to organic places in Thailand please leave a comment to help others on their journey.
Hi, Nice to see a good post about the Phuket, Thailand. Excellent read! FYI, you can also read all the current Phuket articles in one place by going to http://www.hoteldealsphuket.com and it’s news or article section. Also, due to it’s the 10th anniversary of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami that rocked Phuket, you will find full details of any events taking place and also be able listen to a charity song recorded in late 2013 by going to this website http://www.tsunamiday.com. Thank you and keep it up the good work.
