Yes, in 2 1/2 weeks time we will be winging our way back to that little tropical Island that we fell in love with earlier this year.

This time we’ll be meeting with our best friends there. We sold them on a journey that we took in 2007 – an Intrepid trip through Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand (ending in Bangkok).

Leith wanted some where to just relax after the 3 week expedition. We mentioned that we were looking at going back to Thailand to work on a small business venture and that we would be travelling through the country.

The night progressed and talking gave way to the decision that we would meet in Phuket and return to Samkong Place (our little home away from home hotel in Phuket). Danny and I have known each other since my first weeks in Australia and since I was primarily in Phuket to get more dental work done, Leith prompted Danny that since I was a  guinea pig that he and his family should also get all their dental done while we are all together.

So that’s the plan, however there is a deeper reason for us to return to the land of smiles.

After visiting Thailand on several occasions we really want to explore the possibility of living here long term. As we are gearing up to slow down and take the slow road of travelling we are coming to the realization that Thailand could be a good place to start this journey.

Elena has been researching (while I’ve been blogging). The ex-pat comunitity seems to be located in the southern part of the island so our plan is to look at apartments in the Rawai to Karta Beach area of the Island. We don’t want to be amongst all the lights and dazzle of Patong with the tourists. We are looking for a more relaxed experience.

Our goal is to find our more about local living and then move north by train up to Chang Mi, an area that wee have never explored.

There is a motorbike ride that I’m wanting to check out, the Mae Hong Son loop. So with a little planning we are going to spend about 5 days exploring this part of Thailand.

We’re hoping that a friend of mine from work will be in Chiang Mai when we arrive as he knows a girl here and we may be able to get a little heads up on the local scene.

It’s strange, each time we fly away I feel a little more of me is embarking on our new life and less of me is concerned with where I work and life in Australia. The time is coming soon to make the leap to traveling long term, but as we lay the foundation the leap is now starting to feel like a natural small step.
