Back in the Early 90s Russia was falling apart. the break up of the soviet union left millions of people out of work and bought the country to its knees. There was nothing on the shelves in the shops and civil unrest. The Mafia had almost taken control of the country.
It was no wonder that there was a rise of Russian Women who wanted a better life and started looking toward the west and what it had to offer. If you were a young lady with a child you wanted to escape the troubles and turbulence. Not only that, but in the early 90’s Russia had been fighting a war Afghanistan for almost 10 years and with no win in sight this was Russia ‘s Vietnam. In Russia the military service for young men was 2 years and with these type of thoughts in the minds of young mothers there where many very real reasons to get out of Russia.
Our journey into this world was different. Both of us having come through one marriage we were looking for someone whom we could spend our lives with. We have have been together for 15 Years now and look back on what was the “Russian Bride” era. This time has past now and although the industry of internet dating has thrived in most parts of the world and has become a socially normal way to meet a life partner, the dramatic climb of internet sites promoting beautiful Russian Women is on the decline. been together for 15 Years now and look back on what was the “Russian Bride” era.
While there are still 1000’s of women advertised on site run from all over the world you have to look carefully at who is driving the site and what type of women are displayed on the site. We know the industry well as in the late 90’s and for 5 years we ran a successful dating business between New Zealand and Russia. But like all fads there comes a point of telling your story of how you met and what you do for a living that becomes mundane. We are looking and planning our lives together – Travel – Romance – and feeling alive – I’m looking forward to the next 15 years with my beautiful friend, wife and lastly Russian born lady.
