With Elena heading out the door like Cinderella off to her ball I was faced with a dilemma. Should I stay in or go out again as I still had not ate anything for dinner. Even though I was exhausted from the days events I just had to eat, so slipping my now swollen feet into my shoes I trudged off in search of a meal.

Once again the camera brigade were swirling around the bay like the mist off the water. I found my way back to the baby Merlion across the bay. Dusk was setting in and their seemed to be a commotion on the water. It soon became apparent that there was some celebration complete with dragon boats, a military jets flyover and fireworks. My consolation prize for not going to the ball.

Working my way back to the hotel I managed to squeeze a space at the now packed food garden opposite. What looked appetising on the menu board the day before turned out not as well as I expected, but it was well priced and filled a gap.
Home to bed and asleep before my princess got home in the wee hours of the morning.

Day 4 and our last in Singapore until our return from China. Rising at 8.30am and slowly packing our gear away we made our way to the lobby to leave our bags with the concierge. As this was a full day before flying we thought we would head off to Sentosa Island for a swim in the ocean. Taking the MRT Rail to the island and transferring to the Sentosa Island Cable way which proved to be bloody expensive – $58 return for the two of us, some things have changed from ten years earlier.

Once on the Island the only way to get around quickly is to use the monorail, mind you the voice over on the monorail is so cheerful and welcoming is so funny to listen too. We thought about going to Universal Studios, but looking at the prices once again things here were not out of the budget, but we have so much of our journey still ahead of us and riding a theme park was not high on the list.

We made our way back to the monorail and headed on to the beach. After finding the changing rooms, had to make another shot pit stop before going to the water, a new pair of swimmers as I must have put on a little weight. I found a Billabong Shop and parted ways with $80, still its cheaper than a diet program, stay fat I say.

Time was now starting to catch up with us and we still needed to go back to The Mandarin Oriental Hotel to collect our bag and get to the Airport by 7pm. It was now 3.30pm and we still wanted to a quick look at Chinatown on the way back. Too be honest I was a little disappointed, but if you are stopping in Singapore on your way to somewhere else and you have never tasted Asia its OK. I bought a light cotton shirt for $18.

The Concierge thought we were a little strange checking out of a 5 star hotel and declining a taxi, as we walked toward the mall with its maze of connecting corridors that led us to the MRT and on to Changi International Airport.

Singapore was done, now on to Germany to meet with friends, old and new…
