Thinking that I had plenty of time I casually strolled toward Marina Bay Sands. Elena and I had discussed that we were to meet by the large Channel sign that we could see from the other side of the bay the previous evening. I crossed the causeway that linked the complex to the hotels where we were staying. just as well that sections of the walkway were covered as in typical fashion and a trend that I was starting to get used to it poured down with rain. Trapped with my camera in hand and only meters from the complex entrance I just had to wait it out. thinking that it cant rain forever I judged the moment that it seems lighter and ran for cover. I entered the Marian Bay Sands retail complex on the top level and directly below was a huge food court with an artificial ice skating rink.
Desperately trying to find an exit on this level that would take me to the Channel sign I paced up and down yet still couldn’t find it, so the next best thing would be to stand by the shop right? Well apparently that was wrong too as the store was set on two levels. For an hour Elena waited just a few meters below me. As Elena was wearing a purple themed shirt for her meeting I thought she would be easy to spot, yeah right! Try to spot her with over 2500 people at the conference wearing the same shirt!!
Somehow we both managed to find the sign and the rain had cleared outside.
We wandered back inside the mall and searched for the food court, but to our dismay it was so full of over 2000 of Elena’s work colleagues that had also just left the mornings seminar we just had to search further. We found a place to eat just below the main square of the mall with its gondola and massive water feature that was set to start at 3pm we sat, ate and waited for the display.
Tumbling water rolled around the huge bowl spewing water through a small opening, the roar was deafening. Passing over 220,000 litres of water collected from the roof of the complex, the water fountain is an awe inspiring sight.
Now with only a couple of hours before the main ball, we returned to the hotel foe Elena to prepare.
