It’s always a question “What to do over the holidays?”

As our children are now grown into young men we don’t seen to do much of the kid stuff. So when my two autistic boys visited from New Zealand I had the chance to be a kid again. I’m the luckiest Dad in the world as my two boys from my first marriage will never be the problematic teens, who drink, party and want to borrow dads car to go hang out with friends. No, my boys have a younger mental age of about 8-12 years old and will be like that for life.

So what better place to visit than the the Theme Parks of Australia’s Holiday Capital – The Gold Coast.

Sea World was an obvious choice, as with us the boys (Sean 25 and Jere 23) love nature and wildlife. They get more enjoyment with animals that with x-box (see told you I was lucky).

There is plenty to do here, however with the boys mental condition the roller coasters were out of the question. Currently there is a major renovation going on and there will be a new ride attraction coming later in the year (we’ll keep you posted).

One show you just have to see here is the Imagine Dolphin show. If you’re a true lover of these magnificent creatures it will set you heart a flutter as you are captivated by the grace and power of our closest relatives. Both the boys were eyes front and fixed to their seats, just wish the show was longer as you’re so transfixed by the performance.

There is only one downside and it’s the same in all theme parks, the food is expensive. I’m glad that my boys are not into Coke and other artificial junk food (a cup of Coke was $9.95!!!!). Sean is a fan of Iced Tea a Jere prefers Sandwiches over a pie… so proud. My advice is to pack a little something into a bag and take it with you for snacks.

The park has a few shows so make sure you grab a map and timetable at the entrance (they are free) and plan your day.

The theme park is on the northern end of  The Gold Coast with plenty of public transport access, or better still stay at the one of the luxury hotels (Sheraton, Palazzo Versace, Sea World Resort) that neighbor the park
