There are those rare moments when you think

“yes I’m meant to be in this place at this particular moment in time”.

These moments come, and when you recognise them in your life a surreal magic happens.

But before we get to last nights magical moment I need to bring you up to speed.

Everyone has a favourite song and for me that song is Pink Floyd’s “Wish you were here”. Now that you’re knowing this here’s the story….

There have been 3 times when this song has impacted my life.

1: We had a beautiful French girl stay with us via a house sitting assignment we gave her while we went travelling to Phuket in 2013. Over time we struck up an incredible friendship with Amaelle and as she travelled around Australia each time she would stay with us. She invited us to come and have lunch and and an afternoon paddle boarding on the Gold Coast and meet with her hosts there. This is where I met Tony McGinnues, a retired base player from the Irish rock band Aslan, who played “Wish you were here” and rivalled the original version. (2.37m in is Tony on the Base Guitar)

2: Elena organised a trip to Chiang Mai Thailand and the dates were the same as a workmate of mine who managed another shop within the same company. We organised that we would meet and spend some time together. Paul had a wonderful girlfriend Maow who had a cheeky little daughter. We sat at John’s bar watching the traffic go by Tha Pae Gate and the street below. With promises to catch up in a couple of days time we left to wander the streets. We crossed through the gate and the little band started playing……. “So, So think you can tell……” OMG it’s wish you were here!!! I cried to Elena.

3: Then there was last night here in Luganvile Espiritu Santo. Elena wanted to show her Mom a local cultural show and we had heard that Village De Santo hotel offered such a venue so after a quick search we found the place on goggle maps and were off. We were welcomed by the owners and seated in the cosy restaurant where there was a coupe of local Ni-Vanuatu guys with a guitar, ukulele and a box that was made into a base. They were belting out cover songs with an Island Reggae flavour and making each song special by changing the words slightly to introduce Santo to us. Songs like Phill Collins Paradise, with the words “it’s just another day in Santo Town” instead. There was only one other couple (who left half way though the evening) in the whole place yet these guys played like the room was full. I said to Elena while they were playing I wonder if they know “Wish you were here”… and then it happened, that magical moment when all the stars line up and you know you are in the right place at the right time….. “OMG can you freakin believe it?” I cried to Elena, her eyes were welling up and so were mine I grabbed the iPad and in dim light I recored this special moment….. To all our wonderful friends and followers who read this, I want you all to know, when you have these moments cherish them, it means you are on the right path in life

For us this place is very special and we so want to share it with you all………Santo……… “We wish you we here.”.
