Sometimes its more of “who you know” when it comes to meeting people. Take the last weekend for example. Just chillin at home and trying to get our house finished and on the market. Over the last two years working on the house this project has become a love hate relationship. Elena loves when I work on it and I hate the process. I guess it’s because I’ve worked with paints and chemicals for the last 25 years so when I come home it’s really the last thing I want to do, is work with them on the weekend.
So when Amaelle, a good friend of ours, we meet after giving her the task of looking after our home on our recent trip to Phuket asked us to a Sunday lunch at her place on the Gold Coast we jumped at the chance to get away from the boring chore of painting and decorating.
As we arrived the owners Tony,Mags and their daughter Georgia were out the door with promises of catching up later in the day and we were instructed to make ourselves at home and feel free to use the entertaining area including spa and pool facilities.
Lunch by the pool and an afternoon paddle boarding on the Currumbin River really set the tone for the afternoon. Just chillin on the river and hey I didn’t fall in as I thought I might. This Paddle boarding is not a bad sport and for $15.00 per hour it’s a cheap way to get those washing board abs that I’ve been dreaming about.
Getting back to the bait and tackle shop to return the gear, I raced to the toilets at the back to get changed. Only to return to find the girls being offered free Tuna off the back of a truck. Not only free, but the guys were very friendly and told them how to prepare the fish and had it all cut up for them. Well done! I guess if I had tried to get free fish I would have to shave my legs.
If you have never tried Paddle Boarding, take my advice – DO IT! it’s as easy, relaxing or as strenuous as you want to make it. I know I will be back to do this again.
Returning back to Amaelle’s place with promises of Apple pie desert and ice cream we setted in and got to know Mags and Georgia as Tony was still on his way. Sharing stories for the next hour before Tony got back and we really warmed to Amaelle’s extended family.
Tony wanders in apologising and explaining that during the day he had ripped the back end out of his jeans. Let’s just say it was a “you just had to be there” explanation. It was really cool to get to know them all, Tony was excited by our bike and I kept urging him to get one.
Tony used to be in a band in Ireland and it was explained that the band was quite famous, but me not knowing anything of Ireland I didn’t think much of it that was until I got home and started looking things up on good old you tube.
The band was Aslan and after listening to a few tracks I wondered why I hadn’t cottoned on to this band years ago.
Speaking of cottoning on, Mags looked at the shirt I was wearing and remarked to Tony (affectionately referred to as “T”) “That cotton shirt in you wardrobe will never fit you again, give it to Wayne”
So, guess what groupies….. I got a cotton shirt from a famous rock star (AND IT’S NOT FOR SALE)
What was cool about meeting a famous Rock Star is that I didn’t know he was a Rock Star, to us he was just Tony, a guy who was happy to tell a story about his arse falling out of his jeans.
Like I said… Sometime’s it’s not because you know…. It’s because of who you know.
Really looking forward to getting to know Tony, Mags & Georgia.
Oooooh Wayne, this is a lovely tribute…
