Who would have thought that only a couple of weeks ago the we would be returning to Vanuatu. This time to look at the very real opportunity of purchasing property there. Elena has managed to to squeeze a day off so it’s another three day weekend but this time there will be no real time for sightseeing. I’m convinced that there will be something that we can do here and make a little money that will still give us the freedom to continue to travel. I spied a complex of seven apartments and it looks promising, but like most things on the internet unless you see them with your own eyes it’s all smoke and mirrors.

The house hunting in Brisbane is now dwindling to a grinding halt as thoughts turn to Vanuatu. We’ve been talking to Jack & Janelle, our newly found friends from the Budget Travellers Motel. As ex-pats and with the knowledge of the real estate market Jack has given us some strong leads and sound advice of where to look.

Our evenings now are filled with getting home and searching the net for any information we can find.

Does this mean the end of our travels? No way! It’s giving us a base that’s less costly than Australia. As we’ve said in our Downsizing blogs, there is 2 ways to make money – 1. Go out and slave yourself to earn more or 2. Spend less of what you currently earn.

There are a lot of Real Estate website to choose from and unlike Australia with it’s combined sites like www.realestate.com.au and www.domain.com.au In Vanuatu all of the Real Estates companies are separate. Which means like most information, you’re going to have to do the digging yourself. Here’s a helpful list of what we have compiled so far.

Most times when looking at new locations it’s easy to get carried away with all the good points and you tend to overlook the “little things” that might put you off… see it’s that easy to play down what to call the bad stuff. Getting involved with a local blog really helps. You can just read, or like us start asking a few probing questions to get honest answers and opinions of what somewhere could really be like…. Remember it’s honest opinions you look for, not whinging and complaints. We managed to fins a great blog on Vanuatu.
