I used to work for a rental car company in New Zealand for a few months after graduating from Travel college. I discovered that we would offer generous discounts to people who flew into Christchurch and hired a car then drove it to Auckland. At one point the company was so desperate to get cars back to the larger cities they would offer free hire and fuel for a 3 day hire. Ok so you didn’t get in a lot of sightseeing and the dates may not suit your itinerary, but if you needed to move quickly across New Zealand this was an opportunity that could save you quite a bit of hard earned travel cash.
I was so busy working that I never got the opportunity to explore this little perk, but the idea stayed in my mind. Now that we are exploring all the possibilities of how we can maximise out time on the road all these little memories come flooding back and with a little research here are some great places around the globe that offer great deals on one way car hire for free.
