Gnome Hollows Bed and Breakfast

When your travelling you can do one of two things, finish your days exploring or head to the local expats bar to catch up on the gossip both local and around to globe.
For me personally I’ve never had a problem getting to know new people, whereas Elena take a little coaching sometimes, I guess it depends on her mood and the days events.

We’ve had opportunity to meet some great friends over the years who live all over the globe, only last year we took a long boat out into Phang Nga Bay for our 15th wedding anniversary and meet our friends who reside in Switzerland.

So when returning from a day our visiting the Long Neck Tribes of Burma living just out of Mae Hong Son, Elena made for the cabin for a hot shower (which is a real luxury in some places we stay) I made my way to the open fire where a few of the guests were staying. Fern Eco Resort put out a bi bag of sweet potatoes for roasting on the fire each night – a real nice touch to the end of the day.

I park up on a log next to a couple of older guys who were from Canada. Rusty and Dave (and Dave’s wife) were part of a tour and would be leaving tomorrow as with us
We got to taking about where we had been a swapping stories and picking up valuable titbits of information to store away and use at a later date. The guys had returned from a long tail boat ride to a distant village of Long Necks and we were all interested in the similarities in the two different places that we had visited. We talked at length about reviews on the internet and if we followed all the reviews in some cases we would miss out on some pretty interesting stuff.

Rusty turned in and Dave and I sat up in font of the glowing fire, two blokes bonding and sharing life’s philosophies. We can to agreement that in life there are those who do and those who do not. We both agreed that we can’t take our wealth and riches with us so why not spend them on what we like doing, for both of us that’s travel.

I felt good that I turned toward the fire that night and sat down beside a stranger who by the end of the night had swapped stories exchanged website addresses and offered each other places to stay should we ever be in each other’s global neighbourhood.
