We finally made it to Surin Beach and to be honest I’m not sure that I totally agree with all the hype. I guess it depends on you point of view. I hunted for this beach last time we were here and for some reason I went right past it and didn’t see the turn off.

Surin Beach is crowded with deck chairs from one end to the other. The massages on the beach are more expensive than that of its neighbour Kamala but for expats I guess it’s the closest beach to home. The Beach clubs here blast out the latest Russian Techo as if there is no other tourist on the beach. Even Elena is a little tired of all the Russian everywhere (and she’s Russian).
I’ll give Surin Beach credit though, the water here is pretty clean and the beach is good for swimming during the Christmas holiday season.

The beaches here do have a seasonal pattern and there are certain times of the year that you just wouldn’t consider swimming in the ocean here. The trusty travel agent at your home town has no clue as to what the seasons here are and if they did they wouldn’t sell this destination during the low season. Surin Bbeach like many others here can be full of rips and strong currents during the rainy season.

After a short swim here we headed of over the hill toward Patong with one stop on the way, lunch at Kamala Beach.

Kamala is a bigger beach than Surin and shares the same fate with the deck chair brigade covering almost every square inch of sand. So far I’ve never paid for a deck chair, call me tight but my arse can sit on the sand and be back to nature as we did as children. I recon grab a towel and spread it on the sand….. Guess what? I just saved the cost of a beer…. Now that’s smart thinking.

I’m starting to relax now, 5 days into the holiday and coming to terms with the fact that we’re not quite ready to leap into travelling full time but silling here on the beach with an IPad developing or blog and other business ventures I could adapt onto this lifestyle with ease…. Now who mentioned lunch?
